I started my journey into health several years ago because I was beginning to experience menopause symptoms. At that time it occured to me how much closer I was getting to retirement, it really snuck up on me. I didn't feel particularly healthy and had been told by several doctors regarding my health complaints that I was getting older and these things were to be expected. This made me angry!
Why should I have to start feeling like crap just because I was getting older? They all wanted to prescribe pharmaceuticals to cover up the complaints but I'd had enough, I wanted to cure myself, not cover it all up. Why should I accept feeling like that and fill my body with chemicals.
I am approaching a time in my life when I will have the freedom to do what I want, go where I want, whenever I want. I need to be able to enjoy the life that my eventual retirement will offer and I want to do it in health, with energy and a fully functioning brain. I want to be able to spend time with family and friends, travel, explore new places and the natural wonders that surround us everywhere. Why should I have to spend my retirement years dealing with illness and chronic disease, tied to my home and doctor offices? I should be able to experience life fully, not watch it pass me by just because I was getting older.
I decided I better get busy and start looking for ways to heal myself naturally because I did not want to take medications to alleviate my issues. I began researching alternative methods and I discovered a wealth of information on foods, environmental sources and how my own stress and lifestyle choices were contributing to my issues. Discovering the impact of food on my health and emotional well-being was a new concept for me. I understood the basic ideas that eating large quantities of food as well as fatty and high sugar foods caused weight gain and other diseases associated with obesity, but the connection didn't occur for me until I started making small changes, as I noticed the benefits I began adding more changes. My refrigerator and pantry now have nothing in common with what they looked like several years ago.
My list of complaints was long and honestly I still have a list but it's much shorter now, it's a work in progress. The things on my list that I have improved are increased energy, a clear mind without brain fog, significantly reduced and in some cases completely eliminated joint pains and stiffness. I have improved my sleep and my stress levels have dramatically improved. I was so stressed out that my sleep was nearly nil and I came home from my 9 to 5 job crying nearly every day. My life now is a complete 180 from what it was just a short time ago. I took charge of my life and my health and am loving life and this path I'm on. I did not do this with deprivation, I did it by making the healthiest choices for me and my body.
